Rainbow Votes 2025
Our voices matter, our votes count, and our community's concerns deserve to be addressed with substantive policy solutions.

Voting Guide
Where do the parties and independents stand on LGBTIQ+ issues?
Equality Australia’s voting guide captures the extent to which each party has committed to advancing the rights and wellbeing of our communities across a range of key issues.
Our side-by-side overview summarises the responses provided to an Equality Australia questionnaire.
We based these questions on the priorities identified by nearly 5,500 LGBTIQ+ voters who participated in our Rainbow Votes 2025 survey. They ranged from health and data collection to discrimination protections and support for rainbow families.
Our community has made significant gains over the last decade, and most Australians believe we deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
But our voting guide clearly shows that more needs to be done before we can live our lives free from discrimination and harm.
Check out how the parties stack up on the issues affecting YOU.

Rainbow Votes Election Forum
Equality Australia hosted the Rainbow Votes Election Forum with other peak LGBTIQ+ organisations on April 15.
The sold-out event in Sydney was also livestreamed around the country with viewing parties held in Victoria and South Australia.
Six priority areas were identified for discussion following community feedback, with questions ranging from the implementation of the National Action Plan for the Health and Wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ People, to hate crimes, trans rights and discrimination in religious schools.
Greens MP Stephen Bates, Liberal Senator Andrew Bragg, Independent MP Allegra Spender and Labor MP Kate Thwaites gave insights into how they or their party plan to ensure the safety and wellbeing of LGBTIQ+ people across the country.
We hope it provides you with some of the information you need to make an informed decision at the ballot box.

Rainbow Votes Report
For the second time, Equality Australia has surveyed LGBTIQ+ voters and their supporters to understand what matters most to them.
What stands out clearly from our findings is that even amid the economic pressures of the cost-of-living crisis, LGBTIQ+ voters remain deeply focussed on how policy issues affecting our communities will shape our lives and our futures.
About one in five LGBTIQ+ voters are currently undecided with more than a third indicating they intend to change who they vote for in the upcoming election.
Parties and independents can’t take LGBTIQ+ voters for granted and they should be working hard to win back voters and build support among those who are undecided.
The message is clear: you must earn our votes through meaningful policy commitments.
