Our small but passionate team is made up of dedicated law, policy and advocacy experts who have a long history of working for marriage equality and LGBTIQ+ rights.

Anna Brown oam, CeO

She/Her

CEO Anna Brown’s fingerprints are on nearly every major reform for LGBTIQ+ people in recent years. She played a critical role in the campaign for marriage equality co-chairing the Equality Campaign.

Lachlan Snow, Development and Partnerships Manager

He/Him

Lachlan is responsible for ensuring Equality Australia has the resources it needs to advocate for our community for decades to come. Lachlan is an experienced relationship manager and has worked as a fundraiser for Musica Viva Australia and Story Factory.

Emily Mulligan, Engagement Director

She/Her

Emily has more than a decade’s experience winning campaigns, building online communities, fundraising and writing persuasively. Emily was a Campaign Director at GetUp during the Marriage Equality plebiscite building mass support for the Yes vote.

Ymania Brown, Chair of #TransEquality

She/Her

Brisbane-based Ymania is Samoan by birth and a proud Fa’fafine Trans Pacific leader who has driven Pacific trans activism and globally through ILGA World, The International Trans Fund and GIN-SSOGIE.

Dale Dawson, Operations director

He/Him

Dale Dawson is an experienced senior leader with two decades of experience in operations, people and culture, change management, commercial negotiation, and strategy. With a passion for generating and amplifying impact through building effective teams, Dale has honed his skills across a variety of sectors including NGO, NFP, for-purpose and corporate. Prior to joining Equality Australia, Dale was Director of Operations for Asia-Pacific and appointed to the regional Boards of Directors at a leading global sustainability advisory firm.

Naureen Shah, Executive Officer to the CEO

She/Her

Naureen brings close to 15 years of experience working both nationally and overseas in embassies, NFP’s and multi-scaled organizations. Starting her career in corporate audio visual, moving to events with the largest sporting teams and tackling international government relations, Naureen most recently played a critical role in bringing the hugely successful Sydney WorldPride 2023 festival to life. With her superpower of bringing others together, Naureen understands what people need to excel and the ways to achieve success.

Tara Ravens, Media manager

She/Her

Tara Ravens has been a journalist and communications specialist for 25 years.  During her 15 years at the national news agency Australian Associated Press, she worked as NSW Political Correspondent, Northern Australia, Bali and Timor Correspondent, Sydney Chief of Staff and World Editor. Since then she has worked for a range of government agencies, private companies and NGOs on communications strategies, media engagement and crisis management. 

Oliver Ray, senior Legal policy Advisor

He/Him

Oliver is a social impact lawyer, combining legal and policy expertise with campaign strategy to create meaningful change.

Prior to Equality Australia, Oliver worked as a strategic litigation solicitor at Grata Fund, as a campaigner at GetUp and as a tipstaff on the NSW Court of Appeal. He holds an LLM from New York University.

Jasmine Rule, Digital Specialist

She/Her

Jasmine has 10 years of experience writing, filming and editing content.  Her previous employment includes Pedestrian TV and NOVA, where she created commercial and editorial videos. Her interest in political activism then took her to GetUp! where she covered the 2022 Federal Election, specialising in video journalism and political satire. 

Max Pick, #TransEquality Project Co-ordinator

They/Them

Max is a proud non-binary and trans person with a versatile background. Prior to Equality Australia, Max worked largely in community and administration positions with over 4 years in the disability field, and as a Policy Advisor with the former City of Sydney Deputy Lord Mayor, Irene Doutney.

Mike Hitch, Digital Campaigner

He/Him

Mike Hitch is a Digital Campaigner with over six years of experience in media, journalism and LGBTIQ+ activism. Having specialised in covering politics and social justice, Mike’s work involving Queer and First Nations communities has taught him how people are the greatest tool for driving political change.
