Protect LGBTIQ+ Australians
From the harm hate causes

LGBTIQ+ communities should be safe to live free from hate. Take action now!

Everyone deserves to be free to express who they are, without fear.
But there are no national laws protecting the LGBTIQ+ community from hate speech and vilification. This is also the case in SA, WA and Victoria.
With attacks on the rise, especially against the trans community, there is an urgent need for stronger measures to protect LGBTIQ+ people no matter where they live.
These should include:
- Expanding the proposed Hate Crimes legislation to include protections against vilification.
- A national database of hate incidents.
- Coordination and intelligence sharing between agencies, including state and territory police forces, and LGBTIQ+ communities.
- Research into the causes of anti-LGBITQ+ hate and extremism.
- Greater investment for LGBTIQ+ community-led responses to support survivors and undertake public education.
A bill is currently before federal parliament, but it falls short of what was promised to us and only focuses on urging and threatening violence, rather than promoting hatred.
We need to ensure these national protections actually stop hate before it translates into violence.
And we need our politicians to hear from us about how hate can snowball into something far more sinister.
Will you take a minute to send a message of support for stronger reforms to your local federal MP? Better yet, let them hear your own personal story about the harm that hate causes.
