Equality Australia's submission in response to the Victorian Government’s discussion paper regarding Legislative options to implement a ban of conversion practices.

Equality Australia stands with survivors of conversion practices, affirming their right to tell their stories on their own terms. We seek to understand their experiences, acknowledge their tribulations, and work with them to move towards a best practice and world leading response which achieves redress and justice.

We need a comprehensive response to the issue of conversion practices across Australia that includes:

• Redress and support for survivors
• Stronger laws to prohibit conversion practices 
• Sustained measures to support cultural change, such as education and training informed by the experience of survivors
• Encouraging religious leaders and institutions to denounce conversion practices
