Sport should be for everyone.
But Prime Minister Scott Morrison has thrown his support behind a cruel and divisive new bill which would allow exclusion of trans and gender diverse people from sport, including children under the age of twelve.
The Bill could be debated by the Senate within a month.
If we act fast, we can send a clear message to the Senate that the community stands with trans and gender diverse kids and ensure Senators reject this Bill.
Will you sign our petition demanding that the Senate stand with trans kids?
To: Members of the Australian Senate
We, the undersigned, call upon members of the Australian Senate to stand up for trans people and to reject Senator Chandler’s Private Member’s Bill in its entirety.
The Sex Discrimination Act already allows for discrimination on the grounds of sex, gender identity or intersex status by excluding people from competing in sports where strength, stamina and physique is relevant.
Instead of considering how these exemptions could be narrowed, Senator Chandler’s Bill would go further, and for the first time allow discrimination against children under the age of 12 years.
Sport should be for everyone. The Senate must act decisively to stand for the inclusion of trans kids and reject this Bill in its entirety.
